Tonight on #FlashbackFriday!

Unpredictable, irrepressible, and outrageous!

I’ll take “Words that may describe my blog articles” for 100!

Oh, who am I kidding?  Outrageous articles?

I’ll take unpredictable and irrepressible.  Those describe my articles.

Today’s video was featured about 4 1/2 years ago, in the earliest days of Allison’s Written Words’ life on WordPress.  It was actually part of a different article, used for a different reason.  Since it had a bit of a common link with Throwback Thursday’s article, I figured talking about the rest of the video worked out well for our Friday fun.

I originally glossed over this during my NFL Flashback series (Week 3’s article).  Absolute truth, everything about this video is an absolute gem, from the NFL predictions down to what would be airing on HBO that evening.

This video was recorded in October 1986.  My parents started the tape about 5 minutes earlier than necessary, but knowing that they were recording a comedy special, they probably didn’t want to miss a moment.  Even stranger…they copied over a Muppet movie.

Seriously?  They recorded over a Muppet movie?!  How dare they do that!

The tape cuts pretty quickly to the last few minutes of Inside the NFL, right as Nick Buoniconti and Len Dawson’s predictions for that week are being made.  This was during Week 7 of the regular season, and they predicted the New York Giants (my team) to win that week in Seattle.

They lost (and on my fourth birthday, no less!), however they ended the season with a 12-4 record…and their first Super Bowl win, so this was merely a bump in the road.

Ask me how I feel about them these days.  I’m still a fan, but it is frustrating to be one!

Anyway, after Inside the NFL (and a very interesting closing credits scene), we have a preview for a movie airing TONIGHT!

I still haven’t seen this entire movie – it came on late on a Sunday night a few years back on Encore, and I had to get up early the next morning.  I DVR’d this movie, but never finished it.

And this gives way to this incredible lineup.  You have to dig deep in 1986 for a night of programming like this!

Dig those mid-1980s graphics!

This is a night of television!

I actually remember that HBO On Location intro – it is on a few tapes my parents recorded over the years.  I’ve even seen the super funky 1970s On Location introduction on a George Carlin special when HBO was airing them as a tribute.

YES!!!!!

And this, my friends, is how you end the week right!

Have a fantastic Flashback Friday, and a great weekend!
