I love when I’m able to find too many commercials to feature for just one Throwback Thursday and Flashback Friday, necessitating a bonus article for your weekly consumption. And speaking of consumption, what will you be enjoying on this Valentine’s Day?
Is it the traditional chocolate?
…or something sweeter?
Well, when it is ice cream cake and an included-with-purchase card featuring a Disney character from a certain ice cream specialty store, life will, in fact, be sweeter!
Today’s commercial comes to us from 1986, and features a certain dessert from a certain store toting “31 Flavors.”
You may be sweeter when you make this great decision!
You had her at Ice Cream Cake. Or was it “Free Totally Minnie” card?
Totally Minnie was first introduced in 1986, giving Mickey’s fairer half a lead role in the world of Disney, and included a music album, a parade at Disneyland, merchandise, and even a movie that aired on NBC in February 1988. During this 1986 promo, a greeting card featuring a very 1980s Minnie Mouse was included with the purchase of a Baskin Robbins ice cream cake.
Given my age at the time of both this promo (I was three years old in early 1986), and the time the movie aired two years later (five years old), I didn’t even know Totally Minnie was a thing…until now. And now that I know this movie exists, and I found it on YouTube, I’m going to have to check it out.
