#MusicMonday – August 7, 2017

M-O-N-D-A-Y S-U-C-K-S!

If you sang that like The Mickey Mouse Club March, then congratulations, are you are geeky as me!

Oh yeah.  It’s Music Monday!

We all have that one song on our playlist, the one that catches your ear, never lets go, and is simultaneously the most bizarre song on your playlist and in general.

Never in my life did I think I’d be listening to a Tom Jones song and getting it stuck in my head for all the right reasons!

In the ’90s, Tom Jones was on a career resurgence.  In 1993, he signed with Interscope Records and released his album The Lead and How to Swing It.  He also took a song by an obscure white Hip Hop group, made it its own, and gave it a bizarre/catchy music video to go with it.

That song?  “If I Only Knew,” and trust me, if I only knew that this song would get stuck in my head, I would have turned it off when it came on Pop Up Video.

Yes, that’s right – a Tom Jones song on Pop Up Video.

Well, it was for the MTV crowd, it charted successfully, and it also featured a cameo by Tom Jones’s muscles.

Two tickets for the gun show, bought and paid for!

If this song was popular among women, I think I know why!

And if you only wanted to know how it was possible that this song could be so catchy, you’ll be smart enough to click play!

Oh, and I wrote a Retroist article on this song.

Don’t be surprised.

If I only knew how to make the week go faster…you know what?  Just enjoy the music.  Let the week carry itself.

Have a great Music Monday!
