#NFLFlashback Week 12 – Lions Become Pussy Cats?

Welcome to Week 12 of the NFL Flashback, where we step back into the past of the NFL and look at some fun tidbits of their league’s past, mainly through classic advertising.

Around the “offices” of Allison’s Written Words, we also call it “All the Places We Can Find Dick Butkus.”

May he have a good sense of humor.

As always if you’ve been here before, great!  Welcome back – we’re 12 weeks in, and have five more weeks to go. If you are visiting for the first time, take some time to read the previous eleven weeks’ worth of posts, which feature a certain Linebacker somewhat prominently.

Week 1 – McDonald’s NFL Kickoff Payoff

Week 2 – “Hey, When Did You Get So Interested in Protection?”

Week 3 – Random VHS Tape Find

Week 5 – Men Who Get Dirt on Their Uniforms Use Aqua Velva!

Week 6 – Masters of the Gridiron

Week 7 – Frank Gifford Advertises!

Week 7 – Extras

Week 8 – The Superstar in Rent-A-Car!

Week 9 – Dan Marino Advertises!

Week 10 – The Return of Dick Butkus…Commercials

Week 11 – NFL Thanksgiving Day Coverage

Hey, in my defense (you see what I did there?!), was easy to spot in advertising.

So now that you’re caught up (or intend to be caught up), let’s move on to Week 12!

This week’s flashback is a bit timely (despite being from the summer of 1986), and a long-standing record being shattered.  The Philadelphia Eagles (who are not my team) have traditionally never lost a Thanksgiving Day game, and have not lost to the Detroit Lions once in the last twenty years.

Some things are meant to end…preferably a blaze of glory known as victory.  I’m a Giants fan, so while I have nothing to laugh about, my team’s inevitable loss today isn’t nearly as bad as the bloodletting I saw on Thanksgiving between these two teams.

But, if you click play, you can see Lions become pussy cats!  It’s mind-blowing!

And there you have it – Lions become pussy cats, and commercials that are oh so timely.

Well, I’m about to watch my team lose their sixth game of the season.

Ugh.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

And just as I’m finishing this…the Giants lost by six.
