Music Monday – June 5, 2017

Guess what’s kicking off for the summer, beginning today?

A new weekly feature!

Good morning, friends, readers, and viewers!

Today is my first day back to work (and writing) since my week-long staycation, which included a week-long visit from my friend Melanie, sightseeing in the historic district of Philadelphia, and my yearly visit to Wizard World ComiCon Philadelphia. It was a great (albeit) busy week, and while it is always nice to have time off, it is also nice to return to a normal life.

And by normal life, that means going back on my diet AND resuming work on the blog.

There’s also actual paying work too.

I felt like it was a good idea to usher the new week in on a good note, so beginning today (and continuing through the summer), I’ll be sharing a Music Monday moment. These are songs that, like Throwback Thursday and Flashback Friday commercials, are chosen at random.  The songs are from my own personal playlists (but are not my videos), and are meant to begin the week on a high note.

I figured it would be the perfect opportunity to begin this weekly feature with a Chicago song.  As I’ve discussed many times between here and Retroist, Chicago is one of my favorite groups, and their music has never failed to entertain and move me.  This one just feels appropriate.

This week’s Music Monday is excerpted from the 2010 Chicago concert Chicago in Chicago (yes, which I own on Blu-Ray), and comes from their second album, Chicago (or Chicago II), was written by James Pankow, and released in 1970.  In concert, it is part one of the seven-part Ballet for a Girl in Buchannon song cycle/suite (this song bookends the whole suite).

The song that kicks off Music Monday is Make Me Smile!

And this is a 2014 video of the whole suite, in case you’d like to hear how this song bookends several other songs.

Have a great Monday! 🙂

And yes, I designed that hashtag featured photo. Yea Paint and bad artistry!
