That’s A #ThrowbackThursday!

“What?!”

Fruit-flavored candy on the outside, bubble gum on the inside…and a classic commercial of our very nostalgic 1990s childhood!

What’s not to love about Throwback Thursday…besides Flashback Friday?

When I think of great lollipop/candy commercials of both my generation, and the one before mine, today’s commercial ranks up there with the classic Tootsie Roll and Tootsie Pop commercials that aired when my parents were kids. In fact, those had so much staying power, they aired alongside today’s commercial.

Even though today’s commercial doesn’t have the “airs several decades in a row” charm that today’s commercial does, this one has its own charms.

In fact, that’s the name of the company. And the product is very much the Tootsie Pop alternative – the Blow Pop!

But don’t take my word for it, let Stephanie the Director, and her “actors” show you…in one take!

Ah yes – Cherry, Grape, Strawberry, Sour Apple (line!), and Watermelon!

And gum in the middle!

That’s a Blow Pop!

Charms Blow Pops have had all the ta-da and “fabulous!” fun of a lollipop and gum hybrid since their introduction in 1969.

They were originally manufactured by the Charms Candy Company, until their purchase in 1988 by Tootsie Roll Industries, who continues to manufacture them today. Charms Blow Pops were the first bubblegum-filled lollipops, and all the flavors named in the commercial still exist today.

I found this commercial in a collection from 1990, but it is actually from 1989, and aired through much of the 1990s. So, in a way, it was the Tootsie Roll commercial of its time, in its own charming 90s music video way.

This is a keeper!

And that’s a Blow Pop!

Say, “Have a great Throwback Thursday!”

What?

Have a great Throwback Thursday!
