In the #ThrowbackThursday 2000 (Well, Actually 2001!)

How about a routine once-a-month commercial block?  It may seem obligatory, but there is nothing obligatory about it.

Allison’s Written Words has been on autopilot this week, while yours truly has been taking a much-deserved vacation/honeymoon to a place I’ve been long overdue in coming back to – Walt Disney World.

Let’s see how everything is going there…

Why yes, that is the Millennium Falcon.  Don’t act like you’re not impressed.

In honor of being busy this week, I decided it was only right to make this week one for giant commercial blocks.

Today’s commercials come from the June 11, 2001 episode of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, with the final seconds of a Headliners and Legends profile on Phil Hartman from a few days earlier, the final commercials and a brief closing clip of Live With Regis and Kelly (she was on maternity leave at that time), the end of WNBC 4 11 pm News, and a partial commercial block from the aforementioned Tonight Show (or, as we simply called it in my house, Leno).  Unfortunately, the tape cut off prior to the episode ending, so there was maybe one or two commercial blocks that didn’t get recorded that day.

That’s a whole lotta stuff, but I had a tendency to start recordings early, and also do frequent re-dubbing of my videocassettes.  Because we all did!

The commercials were taped from WNBC 4 New York, and among movie previews, promos for shows and the NBA Finals, we are treated to…

The late Michele Marsh, who found a comfy spot to land shortly after her abrupt mid-1990s firing from WCBS 2.

(Related: Michele Marsh in November 1988, but with huge hair!)

Saving money on long distance calls, as endorsed by famous people!

A movie about a green ogre with a Scottish accent and the donkey that follows him home.

This movie never really caught on, did it?

The commercial version of the Star Wars Millenium Falcon simulator ride I’ve been on four times this week!

…and the Disney Park I’m not at this week!

As I said, movie previews, quick clips of other shows I taped over, upcoming previews of new shows, and products and services all are contained within.  Whenever you’re ready, click play…the commercials await!

More commercials will be along tomorrow, from the same week in 2001!

Until then, have a great Throwback Thursday!
