This Nostalgic Movie Watcher Is On Christmas Vacation!

We’re kicking off a new theme on “Do You Remember” month, just in time for the holiday season!

This month, I’m taking a feature of all the previous articles and making that the focus of this month’s articles.  A little personal nostalgia goes a long way in shaking loose those wonderful memories of the past, and this month, I wanted to take the time to tell you a few Christmas-related stories of my childhood.  Four weeks, four different stories of my very nostalgia Christmas past, with a New Year’s story to close out 2019 and this year’s themed articles.

It has been a great year of researching different themes, and telling you my nostalgic story when it related back to that topic.  I’m hoping you’ll enjoy my stories as well, and that it inspires you to tell your own Christmas stories, whether it is to me, or to your readers.

Let’s kick off December and a very nostalgic Christmas with my memory of watching a holiday staple and a “new classic,” if you will.

Today’s story is about the 1989 film National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, and instead of just reading my story why not…hear my story?

That’s right, I recorded my recollection of watching Christmas Vacation for you to enjoy!

In this recollection, I talk about the impact of the movie on my young self, the family tradition that developed in the years following its release, and my feelings on it as an adult.

Along the way, I talk about quotable moments, Christmas Pyramids, those opening credits, and that Advent House.  It’s a trip through 30 years that really never feels that long ago.

I hope you enjoy this story as much as I enjoyed telling it!

And Now, You!

As I said in the recording, I’d love to hear your stories!  Tell me about your experience watching Christmas Vacation, or a Christmas movie that has impacted you, created traditions, and makes you nostalgic.  As always, I’d love to hear/read your story, and your comments will be featured on the blog’s Facebook page.

Thanks for listening!  Next week, more stories of the personally nostalgic and Christmasy kind.

Have a great day!

The nerve!

  1. Loved to hear about your memories of this movie. I watch this movie only once a year now, right around Christmas. When I heard your blog I realized it was that time of year again and I watched it over the weekend. There are so many great one liners and funny phrases in this movie. I’ll limit myself to two in your comment section. The rant that Chevy Chase goes on when describing his boss in front of the family, I couldn’t memorize all of it, but it’s hilarious. My second favorite is the famous line of cousin Eddie’s while he’s emptying the chemical toilet…. you know the line.
Anyhow, I only watch 2 Christmas movies every year and this is one of them. Great article/audio.
