#ThrowbackThursday: It’s What’s For Dinner

Or breakfast…or lunch.  Or whatever meal you consume around the time you’re watching this.

Throwback Thursday is not picky.

I had an idea planned for today, but really felt like I hadn’t done a huge commercial block in quite a while and I know how much these seem to drive viewership to my YouTube Channel.

And I have a external hard drive full of these blocks.  Why not put them to good use?

Today’s commercial block is from the February 22, 2000 airing of a Saturday Night Live primetime special featuring game show parodies.  It is a great special, considering the time period is spans.  These primetime specials were dime-a-dozen in the late 90s (especially in the 1998-1999 season), and they were always fun to watch.

And so are the commercials featured within these specials!

Featuring this block:

Fear mongering…if you don’t fill out your Census!

Goofy with an Afro wig.  He’s the original embarrassing dad.

Three attempts to take down the ratings glory of one show.

Unsuccessful.

Pop quiz hotshot:  How many of these shows made it past the 1999-2000 season?

A good deal…

I was never lucky enough to get away with a complete pair of glasses for $99.  I needed special lenses (not the plastic ones this sale specialized in, but lenses that are made so they’re not thick and Coke Bottle-like – can’t have that!), and these days (actually, since 2001), I’ve worn Progressive lenses.  Buying glasses with those lenses is a hassle, because you can only get certain frames.

But enough about that tale.  We have…this Tuesday night lineup!

Pop quiz, hotshot: How many of THESE shows were still on after the 1999-2000 season?

I’ll give you a hint, it wasn’t THIS show.

Because trying to compete with Who Wants To Be a Millionaire? in 2000 was a moot point.

Also included in this block are NBC promos, movie previews, technology of the year 2000 (including that one cell phone commercial where the internet is “in the palm of your hand”), and cars.

So what are you waiting for?  Click play and enjoy the warm glow of the early 2000s!

Tomorrow on Flashback Friday, we’ll continue the “big commercial block” theme with a trip back to 1985 and watch some commercials from Southern California!

Until then, have a great Throwback Thursday!
