Feel Like #FlashbackFriday Again

Greatest feeling ever!

We made it to Friday, and we’re striving to keep our New Year/New You resolution-type self promises alive and kicking beyond the first month of the year.

Heck, we’re just trying to get through the first week.  Anything else is bonus!

Lest you forget the most popular resolutions made this year, based on 2000 people asked (source):

1. Diet or eat healthier (71%)
2. Exercise more (65%)
3. Lose weight (54%)
4. Save more and spend less (32%)
5. Learn a new skill or hobby (26%)
6. Quit smoking (21%)
7. Read more (17%)
8. Find another job (16%)
9. Drink less alcohol (15%)
10. Spend more time with family and friends (13%)
Yesterday’s resolution didn’t even crack the top five, but today’s resolution (more along the lines of “New Year/New You,” and less of a resolution) fulfills the top two resolutions on this year’s list.
We’re going back to 1988 for today’s commercial, and visiting our friends at Kellogg’s, who have a product that can make you feel 19 again.
No, it isn’t like those “young again” movies.  It just totes the false promises of feeling youthful.
That cereal, generically enough, is Product 19.

And the commercial is in regards to Susan’s father having concerns about her mother’s new behavior, which Susan isn’t all that concerned about.

Perhaps its the cereal?

Well, whatever it is, it works for unseen mom.

So go on, click play, and find out what works for mom’s “New You” attitude!

Product 19 was first manufactured in 1967 by Kellogg’s, and was discontinued in 2016 due to diminishing sales.

The name came from one of two reasons: it was the 19th version of the cereal, or the 19th product Kellogg’s worked on in 1967.  Originally created in response to General Mills’ Total, with the only difference between the cereals being that Product 19 is multigrain.  Marketing for Product 19 was geared towards those looking to lose weight, health-conscious individuals, and older consumers.

The slogan in the 1970s captured the mom demographic that this commercial obviously is trying appeal to: “Instant Nutrition – New cereal food created especially for working mothers, otherwise busy mothers and everybody in a hurry.”

Obviously by the 80s, they were focused on “mom recapturing the feeling of 19 years old” when they aired this commercial.  But hey, if mom is happy, let mom be happy.

Even with the rubber dress.

Don’t worry dad.  Your daughter isn’t worried.

All this New Year, New You and resolving hopefully will last beyond this first week of January.  We’ll wrap it up here and call it a week, but we’ll be back next week with more from the archives.

Mom’s rubber dress will not return.  Because some things should be left in the archives.

Have a fantastic Flashback Friday, and a great weekend!
