Today’s Daily Post one-word prompt: Summer.
Longer days, warmer nights.
Fireflies, sparklers, ice cream trucks, and the smell of barbecue and charcoal fill the air.
Swimming pools, bathing suits, and the perfect underwater handstand.
No school, later bedtimes, vacation.
The boardwalk, amusement parks, and memories to be made.
Two-and-a-half months until school starts again. It goes fast, but it’s easy to make the most of it. All of this reminds me of summer growing up (sans fireflies, I don’t want bugs anywhere near me, even if they light up!). I’m now a 33-year-old adult with a full time job and school long behind me. But to me, summer is what you make of it, and I was lucky enough to grow up when we still played all day, rather than went to camp and had organized activities everyday. When it was too hot out, we stayed inside and watched videos or played video games all day (same for if it rained), or we played outside. We went to the lake or to the movies.
For all, it’s the first day of summer. For many, it’s the beginning of summer vacation from school. For others, that started last week. Whenever it began, and whenever it ends, make the most of summer and the short time it is with us. You’re only young once – live like it! 🙂
Happy First Day of Summer!
