#ThrowbackThursday Wants You To Give It A Week, and They’ll Take Off The Weight!

No, Throwback Thursday (nor Allison’s Written Words) are not designed to take off weight, but the right diet/diet plan, exercise, and healthy lifestyle can, in fact, help you lose weight.

Back in the early 1990s, the rage of diet and weight loss were the idea of meal replace shakes, the promise that if you tried them, you’d lose weight.  And yes, with the right balance of diet and exercise along with it, you did lose weight!

One of those very popular diet shakes was Ultra Slim Fast, who toted the promises that if you gave them a week, they’ll take off the weight.  To many people who were likely having trouble getting started and needed some kind of boost or motivation, this stuff was the best way to do it, and when done correctly, was effective.

My mom (and I’m sure many moms) tried Ultra Slim Fast when it was novel product, and saw results.  When I was in my late teens and had gained weight, I tried Ultra Slim Fast, and combined with a good diet, I effectively lost the ten pounds I had gained.  Years later, I would have loved the idea of trying Slim Fast again, but I actually drink something different, and it has worked well for me.

So, all discussion and explanation aside, things like Ultra Slim Fast always felt like fad products, and with all of the other fads that are currently on the market (pills, detoxes, juice diets, eat nothing diets, eat everything diets), this just feels slightly more sane, and it really was much saner than anything you’d find on the market today.  But in the early 1990s, Ultra Slim Fast felt like any one of the bizarre diets you’d find now. And, of course, it was promoted by celebrities (like everything else is today), and that’s where this week’s Throwback Thursday is headed today.

So, for this week’s entry, I give you two 1992 Ultra Slim Fast Commercials, with the testimonials of sportscasters Dan Dierdorf and Cristina Ferrare, and former Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda.

This stuff still exists, but it doesn’t taste as good as it did back when these guys promoted it.

And there you have it, another commercial duo direct from the archives!

Tomorrow, more dieting…and Friday!

Enjoy the rest of your day!

Methinks Tommy will drink to that!
