In response to today’s Daily Post Writing Prompt…
In Reason to Believe, Bruce Springsteen sings, “At the end of every hard-earned day / people find some reason to believe.” What’s your reason to believe?
My reason to believe I can always find the good and redeeming things in everyday life, and refocus when something threatens to steer me toward distraction. For every negativity that I encounter, I always try to find something positive. For little things that annoy me most, I can always turn to something that levels out the annoying (like loud talking in a neighboring office, and headphones that can dull the noise). If I’m upset, I work on refocusing my negative feelings by writing or doing something that will make me happy, or at work, tearing into something work-related, and focusing my angry energy to get more things done.
It’s difficult, but being able to do that (at a minimum) is what keeps me balanced. I haven’t always been able to do this, and I struggle at times, but I’ve gotten much better at finding a balance that works for me.
