#MusicMonday – March 5, 2018

It’s Monday, there’s music, and I’ve got an entire album stuck in my head.

No, seriously.  Whole album.

Last week, I found and downloaded The Essential Hall and Oates to my tablet (via Amazon Music), and both rediscovered and reinforced why I count Hall and Oates among my shortlist of favorites.  That list, of course, is populated by the likes of Chicago and Kenny Loggins, so you know Hall and Oates music is in good company.  I spent my entire morning listening to that album, it was just that good.  While I “rocked out” as much as I could to Hall and Oates, and as much as it is possible in a public/visible place, like my office, I rediscovered a few songs I had completely forgotten about in the mires of love for “You Make My Dreams,” “Private Eyes,” and “Your Kiss Is On My List,” I had totally forgotten about this week’s song pick.

How dare I lose that lovin’ feeling…

No, that’s not the song.

Today’s pick comes from 1981’s Private Eyes, and was released in March 1982 (so it is timely to this week’s pick, being the beginning of March), the third of four tracks released from that album.  It is a song inspired by Eric Carmen’s 1977 hit “She Did It,” itself inspired by the Beach Boys’ song “Do It Again.”  By the way, that inspiration was for the use of “did-it,” as was Carmen’s song several years earlier.  The song peaked at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 (and #66 at year-end), and proved to be yet another hit for Hall and Oates, whose album Private Eyes not only peaked at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 1981, but also was considered to be their creative and cultural peak.

That third song from the album, and my song choice for this Music Monday?  “Did It In a Minute.”  Listen to them “do it” in three minutes and forty-eight seconds, when you hit play!

Oh, and look for former Saturday Night Live bandleader (well, this was before that happened) G.E. Smith on guitar.

I like this song.  It’s catchy, works just as well as any Hall and Oates song of the time, and definitely has that staying power to get stuck in your head.

And there you have it, your Music Monday pick.  Next week, another song from my very choice playlist.

Until then, you did it in quite a few minutes, but you survived!
